Fermentation Scientist

Marrone Organic Innovations is a start-up company working on the discovery and development of biopesticides for unmet pest and weed management needs in organic farming. We are looking for a FERMENTATION SCIENTIST to join our energetic team in our new Davis laboratory. This hands-on position requires flexibility, creativity and ability to work well in project teams under tight timelines. The daily tasks include preparation of media for microbial cultures, optimization of growth conditions in shake flask, batch and fed-batch experiments as well as analytical work related to fermentation processes.

A successful candidate has a B.S. degree with preferably 2+ years of experience in Biochemical engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field. A solid understanding of analytical and fermentation instrumentation as well as experience in the cultivation of microorganisms in flasks and fermentors are required.  The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and record keeping skills as well as ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multi-project environment.

Junior Microbiologist

Marrone Organic Innovations, Inc. (MOI) in Davis, California is looking for a MICROBIOLOGIST to join our R&D team working on the discovery of new biopesticides for specialty crop, ornamental and turf markets. The primary responsibilities include optimization and preparation of growth media, isolation and identification of micro organisms from various natural sources as well as testing them for desired activities using bioassays.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in laboratory research in the field of microbiology with a B.S. degree in Microbiology, Soil Science, Cell Biology, Plant Pathology or other relevant agricultural field with preferably 2+ years of experience in research. Industry experience is a plus.

The successful candidate has:

  1. Basic laboratory skills including aseptic techniques
  2. Ability to work well in a team environment, under pressure and with tight timelines
  3. Excellent verbal, writing, communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Aptitude for understanding business aspects of the Company’s goals and a passion for sustainable agriculture and biological pest management solutions as well as appreciation for our entrepreneurial, fast-paced, risk-taking and dynamic work setting.

 

Hiring in Second Half of 2008

 

Senior Entomologist

Develop and conduct laboratory and greenhouse bioassays against economically important insect pests. PhD in entomology and 2-5 years of experience in developing and conducting insect bioassays with biopesticides. Experience in industry a plus.  Hiring for this position is scheduled for the second half of 2008.
